✧ BirthWright Collective | Birth Doula Support in Philadelphia, PA, and surrounding counties ✧
Birth honored • Choices respected • You supported
BirthWright Collective is my heart-centered birth doula practice, created to walk alongside families in Philadelphia, PA, and surrounding counties during one of the most sacred and transformative moments of life. This practice was born from my deep belief that every birthing person deserves to feel heard, respected, supported, and empowered throughout their pregnancy and birth experience.
I know that birth is not just a physical event — it is an emotional, spiritual, and deeply personal journey. At BirthWright Collective, my role is not to take over, direct, or override your choices, but to gently guide, support, advocate, and hold space for you as you move through labor and birth in your own way.

Meet Doula Mel
I am a caregiver, community advocate, and PA-certified birth doula whose work is rooted in compassion, education, and respectful support. As the founder of BirthWright Collective, I bring a calm, grounding presence into the birth space — offering reassurance, comfort measures, advocacy, and informed guidance throughout pregnancy and labor.
My work in childcare, nonprofit leadership, and survivor advocacy shapes my approach. This trauma-informed, people-focused foundation allows me to support birthing people with sensitivity, dignity, and deep respect for bodily autonomy and personal choice.
Whether you're preparing for your first baby or welcoming another little one, I believe you deserve to feel supported, informed, and never alone. Through continuous learning, reflective practice, and a deep respect for each family's unique journey, my dedication to serving families with compassion and care is steadfast and unwavering.

Why I Became a Doula
BirthWright Collective was born from my lived experiences as a birthing person.
I have two children, and with each birth, I felt the absence of the steady, knowledgeable support I now offer others. Looking back, I know my birthing experiences would have been profoundly different if a doula had been present — I would have loved having someone explain my options, help me advocate for myself, and hold space for me through the intensity and vulnerability of labor.
Those experiences planted a seed that later grew into BirthWright Collective.
I became a doula because I know what it feels like to need support during one of life's most sacred moments, and not have it. My “why” is rooted in advocacy — helping birthing people understand their choices, trust their bodies, and speak up for what they need in moments when doing so can feel overwhelming.
Every family I support is, in a way, an extension of my story.
I bring not only training and education into the birth space but also patience, compassion, deep empathy, lived understanding, and a fierce commitment to helping others experience birth with more support, dignity, and empowerment than I once had.
What a Birth Doula Is
A birth doula is a trained professional who provides continuous emotional, physical, and informational support to a birthing person and their partner before and during labor and birth.

As your birth doula, Doula Mel offers:
-
Emotional reassurance and steady presence during pregnancy and labor
-
Comfort measures such as breathing techniques, positioning, movement, and relaxation support
-
Evidence-based information to support informed decision-making
-
Advocacy support to help your voice and preferences be heard
-
Partner guidance and reassurance during labor
-
Gentle grounding during intense or overwhelming moments
Doulas do not replace medical providers. Melanie works alongside your healthcare team to support your emotional, informational, and advocacy needs throughout labor and birth.
Melanie’s Birth Philosophy
At BirthWright Collective, birth is honored as a powerful, personal, and deeply human experience.
Melanie believes:
-
Every person deserves respectful, nonjudgmental care
-
Informed consent and bodily autonomy are essential
-
Birth preferences matter and deserve to be honored whenever possible
-
Emotional safety is just as important as physical safety
-
No two births are the same, and every birth story is valid
Her role is not to define what a “good birth” looks like, but to support your version of a meaningful, supported birth.
